One thing no one ever told me about going through postpartum is that you have to endure hair loss. There’s a series of hair problem comes a long with it, hair breakage, super dry, split end… the list goes on. If you are going through this or been through this, you are probably nodding your head, a lot.
I am creating this hair care series (more recipes coming up) to share my experience, how I overcome it with only natural ingredients recipes. Today we are going to create this simple super hydrating aloe hair spray suitable for all seasons. Just like our skin, our hair needs constant hydration. Something people least talk about. I never have a dry hair problem until postpartum. It was started by 6 months after the delivery my hair started to fell off like crazy due to a sudden drop in hormone. And one year after my skin and my hair became so dry, that’s beyond acceptable. Especially my scalp. All hair shampoo that claims that it contains only natural ingredients doesn’t help either.
This homemade super hydrating aloe hair spray is super light and moisturises from scalp to hair end. It leaves your hair smooth and hydrated. No heating required. You just needed to weigh, mix, pour and shake. Yeap, that easy!
INGREDIENTS for Aloe Hair SPray
Today we are going to create this super hydrating aloe hair spray which contains of course aloe vera gel. We have to know that aloe vera gel itself is not just aloe vera juice alone, depending on your source, it might contain a chemical preservative. I bought mine from Aroma Zone for this DIY project contains only 93% native Aloe vera juice (100% pure and natural from organic cultivation), to which have been added a natural preservative (composed of Leuconostoc / radish root ferment filtrate, Aqua), xanthan gum (natural gelling agent) and arginine (pH adjuster). Not all aloe vera gel created equal. If you want only natural ingredients, please check with your supplier before you buy.
Aloe vera gel
Let’s talk a little bit more of aloe vera gel. The name Aloe vera derives from the Arabic word āAlloehā meaning āshining bitter substance,ā while āveraā in Latin means ātrue.ā 2000 years ago, the Greek scientists regarded Aloe vera as the universal panacea. The Egyptians called Aloe āthe plant of immortality.ā Today, the Aloe vera plant has been used for various purposes in dermatology.
Very little research has specifically looked at the benefits of aloe vera for hair. But research does indicate that aloe vera could be beneficial in a variety of ways because of its:
- anti-inflammatory actions that may help reduce scalp irritation
- moisturizing effect
- enzyme and fatty acid content that may help reduce inflammation
- vitamins C, E, B-12, folic acid, and choline content that may help nourish and strengthen hair
Others Active Ingredients in the Recipe
We have also vegetable glycerine as an emollient in the recipe. It helps to lock the moisture in our hair so that it stays hydrated. Silk amino acid is included as an active ingrƩdients, it is especially good for use in hair care products, as it protects hair from moisture loss and conditions it to provide a silky smoothness. ECOCERT-approved preservative is included as this hair spray is water-based. The water-based mixture is microbes friendly. We will not want to spray unseen germs and microbes to our hair as the whole purpose is to have clean and healthy hair!
