In my previous blog post top 3 natural after-sun mists, I had briefly introduced what is hydrosol and how it is made. This little bottle of botanical water can be double use as a linen spray and air freshener. German chamomile is so emotionally soothing, balancing, and calming, making it a perfect choice for helping promote restful sleep.
Turkey Red Oil
This all-natural micro-emulsion spray is a water-based formulation that requires an exceptionally low amount of surfactant to disperse essential oils in the hydrosol. So I used turkey red oil for this purpose. Turkey red oil is also known as sulfated castor oil has the emulsification properties that can bind the water phase and oil phase properly by dispersing the oil particles fully in the water phase. Packaging
You will not need a spray bottle if you get yourself the hydrosol from plant therapy as it comes with the spray cap. You will just need to unscrew the original cap and switch it with the spray cap that came along with it.
Summer Relaxing Chamomile Mist
Course: Household RecipeDifficulty: Easy100
ml5
minutesIngredients
95ml Chamomile Hydrosol
4ml Turkey Red Oil
0.3ml Lavender Essential Oil
0.3ml Cedarwood Essential Oil
0.4ml Eucalyptus Lemon Essential Oil
0.6ml Natural Preservative
Directions
- The plant therapy chamomile hydrosol bottle can become a spray bottle itself, but the volume itself is about 20ml more than what we needed for this recipe. You can either
1) measure out the extra volume for your other formulation project (that’s what I do usually) or
2) reformulate this recipe for an adequate amount of essential oil and surfactant. - In the hydrosol bottle, measure and transfer all the oils needed by a pipette.
- Voila, it’s done! Let’s spray and enjoy the aromatherapy effect of this mist!
Notes
- Turkey red oil can be replaced by other surfactants of your choice. Polysorbate 20 could do the job. Just so you know this substitution will make this spray not all-natural anymore.
- Opting out of the preservative will have the risk of spraying germs and bacteria in y our household.
- IF you choose to unscented the hydrosol, this mist will still do the job as a pillow spray and air freshener.
- Keeping this spray in the fridge could extend the shelf life of the spray. And add an extra cooling and refreshing effect.
I love how this little bottle of spray has multi-purpose for my household usage. It is all-natural and also provides us that refreshing yet calming aroma each time we use it. Have fun spraying around and enjoy!
