I have to admit coming from a tropical country like Malaysia, I always take coconut for granted. We have this abundance of coconut that you can find everywhere on the street. All the by-products of coconut and coconut-related food meals are so easy to find. I didn’t know it is a luxury until I moved to Europe.
It is spring now, I am craving that coconut flavor and aroma. So I decided to make a Coconut Pound Cake. This recipe has a heavy dose of grated coconut. And after baking, I had that leftover desiccated coconut makes me wonder what can I do with it. That finely grated desiccated coconut makes me wonder if I can use it as an exfoliating body scrub. Turns out yes! The aroma of this coconut body & foot scrub recipe definitely reminds you of your holiday vacation on the beach. If you are like me, longing for a beach vacation in a tropical country, you would definitely want to give this recipe a try. Cocoon yourself in this dessert-like aroma and you will definitely appreciate your smoothed and nourished skin after a shower.
This quadruple coconut dose body & foot scrub is a one-time use recipe. Don’t need to worry about the preservation of it. Let us admit it, how many times in a week are you gonna use those store-bought body & foot scrub? And finally how long does it take for you to finish one? And if you are like me who always like to try a new scent or new texture, finally you will be ended up a stockpiled of half-used or barely-used scrub in your bathroom cabinet. So in my quest for a DIY nature skincare journey and minimalize one-time use rubbish, I found that making a single-use body scrub makes more sense.
Ingredients For CoCoNut body & Foot Scrub
In this recipe, in order to fulfill my coconut theme, there are 4 types of coconut ingredients. Most of the households probably already have it in their kitchen pantry.
- Coconut Sugar is the fine sandy-like texture in this recipe that exfoliates your skin like desiccated coconut.
- Desiccated Coconut gives this recipe a scrubby texture and definitely has the function of exfoliating your skin.
- Virgin Coconut Oil is a great emollient. It has a great amount of nutrition in it and leaves you smooth skin after scrubbing your skin.
- Coconut cream gives a touch of creamy texture to the end product.

minutesThis scrub yields about 1/4 cup, 60ml for single use.
Ingredients
3 tablespoons of Coconut Sugar
1 tablespoons of Desiccated Coconut
5 ~ 6 teaspoons of Virgin Coconut Oil
2 teaspoons of Coconut Cream
Directions
- Put the coconut sugar and desiccated coconut into a coffee grinder or grind them with a coffee grinder. Roughly grind it until less coarse. Transfer them to a bowl.
- Add in coconut oil and coconut cream.
- That’s it! Enjoy Scrubbing with that heavy coconut aroma.
Substitution& TIPS
- You can swab the coconut sugar to any sugar you have in your pantry room.
- Grinding the sugar and desiccated coconut is to make them into a smaller particle form for the ease of exfoliation and scrubbing. If you don’t mind scrubbing yourself with the coarse particles, you could skip the grinding part.
- Coconut cream in the recipe is optional. I like my scrub to be creamy. If you don’t have it, that’s fine.
- You don’t need to melt the virgin coconut oil, when you mix it with the scrubbing paste it actually helps to bine together, and finally, it melts away when you apply it to your body.
- You will need a mesh sink strainer for the drain hole of your bathroom or bathtub. Coconut sugar is water-soluble and coconut oil melts at shower room temperature and can be flush away easily but not the desiccated coconut. Doing this body scrub once in a while won’t hurt so much of your pipeline but it is hard to say if you are addicted to it. So better to be safe than having your plumber complain.
- Iād recommend using this just before you were planning on cleaning out your tub or shower since youāll need to clean it when youāre done anyways. To use, take a bit of the scrub into your palm and massage it into your legs, arms, and torsoāthis is much too scrubby for your face! Rinse off in the bath or shower, and be careful getting out of the tub as the oil in the scrub can create a slipping hazard. Your skin will feel wonderfully buffed and hydrated!
