I am not really a coffee person, if you defined a coffee person as someone who loves drinking pure coffee like expresso. I am more into not only expresso coffee drinks like cappuccino, mocha, and latte. They are less bitter and sweeter to my likings. So I haven’t been posted for a while, check out my blog post here which I have explained why.
I created this lip scrub as I am no longer allowed to have caffeine intake because I am pregnant. Well, technically I still can but since not taking coffee I am still able to function normally, I completely quit my coffee break during this 9 month of journey. While I am still sane from not drinking coffee, I still miss that coffee aroma from time to time. So I made this mocha-coco sugar lip scrub!
Ingredients
The northern atmosphere is in winter now. Crack and dried lips are something that happens very often during this dry and cold season. Weekly exfoliation will keep that crack lips away and moisturized them at the same time. Our exfoliant in this formulation is sugar, and a wee bit of coffee and cocoa powder for aroma. To enhanced the coffee aroma, I added also a 10% coffee-infused oil, a more detailed recipe about how to make your own coffee-infused oil will be uploaded in coming posts.
The emollients in our recipe come from virgin coconut oil and sweet almond oil. They keep your skin smooth and clean without feeling dried and stripped off after a wash.

- 50ml aluminium can [ US / Europe ]

minutesPhase A – Heated Oil Phase; Phase B – Post-heating phase, Phase C- Cool down phase
Ingredients
Phase A/ 7.5g virgin coconut oil [Learn more about coconut oil here! ]
Phase A/ 14.2g sweet almond oil
Phase A/ 1g of 10% coffee infused oil
Phase B/ 1g ground coffee
Phase B/ 1g cocoa powder
Phase B/ 25g granulated sugar
Phase C/ 0.3g vitamin E
Directions
- Measure all the ingredients of phase A into a small beaker and place it over a warm water bath to melt down the virgin coconut oil if you live in a colder region like mine where virgin coconut oil solidity at room temperature. You will not need to melt your coconut oil if you have chosen fractionated coconut oil for this formulation. Remove your beaker from the water bath once all the ingredients are totally melted and incorporated.
- In the meantime, prepare and weigh your phase B ingredients in a different container.
- Stir and mix in your phase B ingredients.
- Add in vitamin E once all the phase A and B mixture is totally cooled down. Stir to combine.
- Voila, that’s it! Enjoy your smoother lips after the exfoliation.
Notes & Substitution
- Because this scrub is to use in the bathroom, I would prefer to have it stored in an aluminum jar than a glass jar.
- You can replace the 10% coffee-infused oil with more sweet almond oil.
- For the lack of scent, you can replace the virgin coconut oil with fractionated coconut oil (To learn more about the difference, be sure you check out this post!) You can also replace the virgin coconut oil with only sweet almond oil in your recipe if that’s what you have for your formulation.
- You can replace the granulated sugar by salt but don’t blame me to don’t warn you beforehand, it tastes disgusting.
- You can also replace the granulated sugar with brown sugar but please grind it before with a mixer as it is too coarse for your delicate lip skin.
- You can opt-out of vitamin E in your formulation, it is there to keep a longer shelf life for this lip scrub. By opting it out, you can replace it with more sugar.
- No preservative is needed in this recipe as it contains no water.
- Depending on the humidity and indoor temperature, I’d say this scrub can keep for at least 3 months without introducing any water into it.
I use this lip scrub twice a week, and usually in the morning to give me that coffee aroma kicks! It works especially in this gloomy grey wintery weather. You probably already have all these ingredients in your kitchen, please try it out and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
