In continuation of my shea butter theme, I made another version of the Shea Butter skincare product. This time it comes in different forms. A solid lotion bar it is. This lotion bar is made of skin-loving shea butter, beeswax, and avocado oil. If you have been following me, I had made body butter using the same ingredients. I love how it is creamy in butter form but sometimes I would also like to moisturize my skin with a dry touch. This shea butter honey lotion bar is ideal for it. It smells so good and moisturizes your skin the same way body butter does. Let’s dig into it.
INGREDIENTS OF SHEA BUTTER Honey LOTION BAR
This solid lotion bar contains only 4 ingredients. It has skin-loving shea butter, natural emollient beeswax, nourishing avocado oil, and calming sweet orange essential oil. As usual, the following table is provided for you to scale down or scale up your preparation.
Phase | Ingredients | % w/w | |
A | Shea Butter | 36.3% | |
A | Avocado Oil | 36.3% | |
A | Beeswax | 25.4% | |
B | Sweet Orange Essential Oil (Optional) | 2% |
It is up to you to choose refined or unrefined shea butter. The difference is unrefined shea butter has a stronger nutty scent and more yellowish. Essential Oil can be opt out if you don’t have any. If you do have, you can choose any essential oil that you like. The objective is to have a lovely scent and therapeutic in the same way.

Ingredients
30g Shea Butter (Phase A)
30g Avocado Oil (Phase A)
21g Beeswax (Phase A)
1.62g Essential Oil (Phase B)
Directions
- Put all the ingredients of phase A into a double boiler and slowly melt it over a warm water bath. About 10 minutes.
- Remove from the heat once the ingredients are totally melt. Swirl and mix well.
- Drips in essential oil.
- Pour it to a mold. Set aside to cool down.
- This lotion bar dried off fairly quick in room temperature. De-mold it once cool down. About half an hour. But it really depends on your room temperature and humidity.
- To use: Gently apply the lotion bar on your skin, it will melts over our body temperature and moisturize it as it goes.
Substitution & Notes
- Avocado oil can be replaced by any carrier oil of your preference. I found it nourishing for my very dry skin.
- Essential oil is optional. You can replace it with the essential oil of your preference with the benefits that you need.
- The essential oil has to be dripped in after the heating phase as the fragrance of the oil will evaporate with the heat.
- The safest way to melt down the beeswax is over the double boiler water bath. Melting it over a microwave has a risk of oil explosion.
- This is an only oil lotion bar, no water = no microbes. It can store up to 1 year.
It is a rather simple DIY recipe to create this lotion bar. If you want an easy DIY recipe to start with, this is it!
Happy DIY!
