I had made a Shea Coconut Hair Shampoo Bar last time, I love how it was bubbly and creamy during the wash. But I still need a hair conditioning bar, one that can leave my hair smooth and moisturised right after the wash. So I came out with this lovely bergamot tea tree hair conditioning bar. It is a fairly simple recipe with mango butter and virgin coconut oil base, stars with the fragrance from bergamot and tea tree essential oil, it sounds downright delicious.
Ingredients
I had briefly mentioned the benefits of using bergamot essential oil for our hair care in my citrus hair-fortifying hair lotion spray post. It is one of the essential oil that I can’t recommend enough. So here it is I have included it again in my new hair conditioning bar recipe. Together with tea tree essential oil, they provide antimicrobial properties [source]to this hair conditioning bar. In the formulation, we have mango butter and coconut oil as a carrier oil. They are the perfect emollients in the recipe and helps to enhance the conditioning power of BTMS-50.
The conditioning power of the hair shampoo bar comes from BTMS-50. It is a cationic conditioner obtained from rapeseed and palm oil. BTMS works as a conditioner to soften our skin and scalp. Together with stearic acid and cetyl alcohol, they create a creamy base for cleaning and conditioning properties. All these ingredients are plant-based, they are popular for botanic skincare.

Phase B/ 1g Preservative Geogard or Ā Optiphen or Germaben II
Directions
- Weigh and transfer all the ingredients of phase A into a double-boiler. Place the double-boiler over a barely-simmering water bath. Stir and mix until all the ingredients are melted and truly incorporated.

- Quickly decant the mixture into two 50g soap mold.
Notes
- At step 3, the mixture solidifies very fast. make sure you decant the mixture into the mold before it thickens up.
- This hair shampoo bar contains no water but I still include a preservative in my recipe as this bar will be let in a humid environment between uses. However, if it can be dry properly between each use, you can leave out the preservative.
I use this shampoo bar right after a hair wash, I apply it from hair scalp to hair ends and let it sits for at least 5 minutes. And I usually do a foot and body scrub during waiting. Enjoy!
