Today’s creation is going to blast your mind. Ok, maybe not so much if you have been creating your own beauty product for a while, this cleansing balm is not something new. It is an anhydrous product, which means it contains no water, therefore no preservative is needed. This balm contains only lovely skin-loving goodness botanical ingredients. Let’s dive in.
Ingredients
The beautiful creamy texture of this balm comes from Stearic Acid and Cetyl Alcohol. They are oil-in-water co-emulsifier, together with polawax and BTMS-50, they turn this balm into a milk cleansing solution as you wash. It has a gentle cleansing property as they don’t strip off the natural oil on your skin. The oil-loving end of the balm will clean away the dirt in your pores while the water-loving end of the balm attracts water when you wash the balm just simply turns into a milky solution and gets rinsed away by water leaving no oily traces behind. Thanks to these properties, we can also use this balm to remove makeup!
I have included three lovely botanical oils in my formulation, they are sweet almond oil, walnut oil, and castor oil. This balm is in beige color as it is lightly tinted by walnut oil. These oils have one thing in common, they are high in oleic acid and linoleic acid. Below are some of the benefits of oleic acid and linoleic acid I quoted from skincare expertise, let’s have a look.
Linoleic Acid, or Vitamin F, provides moisture and āplumpnessā without weighing down the skin; it fortifies and protects the skin’s barrier, thereby helping to fend off UV rays and air pollutants such as smoke, both of which cause free radical activity that can result in wrinkles and signs of ageing. — munskin.com
As an anti-inflammatory substance that stimulates wound healing, oleic acid can also help calm, balance and help repair skin, even those with damaged conditions like eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. Oleic acid also contains compounds that reinforce the integrity of cell membranes. — luxebotanic.com
Therefore, more legit reasons to try these lovely oils out, and why not turn them into a cleansing balm?

Ingredients
Phase A / 5g Polawax [Ā USĀ / Europe ]
Phase A / 50g Sweet Almond Oil
Phase A / 7.5g Walnut Oil [Ā USĀ / Europe ]
Phase B / 0.5g Ylang-ylang essential oil
Phase B / 0.5g Lemon Essential Oil
Directions
- Weigh and transfer all the phase A ingredients into a beaker or double-boiler. Place it over a barely simmering water bath over a stove. Stir and mix with an inox whisk until all the waxes are melted and combined.
- In the meantime, weigh the phase B ingredients into a beaker.
- Remove the beaker or double-boiler from the heat, let it slightly cool down. Stir and mix at the same time until the liquid reaches a light trace, quickly decant the phase B ingredient. Stir and mix again until total combined. Then pour your cream into your packaging.
Notes
- This balm solidified pretty fast, be sure don’t wait until total cool down to transfer. Else you will have to scrap it out to fill it into your packaging. And it won’t be filling properly as well, as it will be leaving air gaps in your jar.
- I didn’t formulate this balm with a preservative, so be sure it doesn’t have any water contact! I would scoop out a teaspoon before each use.
- Keep it reasonably cool and dry, this balm should be good from 6 months to one year.
- You can substitute the essential oil with any oils that you like.
This lovely little jar of cream contains all the skin-loving goodness, so moisturized and definitely perfect for the coming up cold weather. My skin loves it as it cleans without stripping off the natural oil from my skin, and it leaves it plump and moisturized after rinsing.
