A detox bath is generally made of Epsom salt. The minerals in a detox bath are believed to help remove toxins from the body to improve your health, relieve stress, treat constipation, and assist with weight loss. Magnesium absorption is another important benefit of Epsom salt detox baths. A 2004 study of 19 participants found that 17 of them had increased levels of magnesium and sulphate in the blood following Epsom salt baths. The other famous salt is himalayan pink salt that I use in my recipe. It is a wonderful detox bath salt with 84 essential minerals. It contains lower levels of Magnesium than other bath salts, but is a nice all-rounder to regularly give an additional boost to your overall mineral intake while nourishing your skin and detoxifying your body.
Bath salts are believed to provide several health benefits for people with :
- muscle pain and stiffness
- stiff, aching joints
- arthritis
- circulation problems
- headaches
- anxiety and stress
- skin conditions, such as eczema
- dry and itchy skin
And then now you may ask why do we need to take all the hustle to make one ourselves when it comes in handy just to buy one from the cosmetic shop? Home made DIY bath salts can customize according to your needs. The fun part of the DIY process is to aromatize it with essential oil.
What essential oils are good for making bath salts? Adding essential oils, such as lavender or peppermint, can offer additional aromatherapy benefits, such as relaxation and improved mood. For muscle aches, cinnamon barks helps relaxing tense muscles and reducing inflammation. Tea tree oil has antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties that may make it effective for treating eczema and minor skin infections.
