Welcome to the second episode of my hair care series. So I have created a hair mist to hydrate my hair whenever I needed, whenever it is too dry or whenever I feel boring and I just want to spray something for the fun. I need another product to fortify the strength of my hair with the element to promote hair growth. So today this citrus hair-fortifying lotion spray has all that in mind, let’s look into it.
Ingredients
This citrus hair-fortifying lotion spray stars 3 citrus essential oils that I love so much. They are bergamot essential oil, lemon essential oil, and grapefruit essential oil. Not just that the citrusy scent is so refreshing, these essential oils are actually good for our hair. The rich concentration of limonene and linalool [source] found in bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit oil promote hair growth and nourish tresses from the inside out. Bergamot acts as a stimulant, so when you massage it into your scalp it will thin out the blood cells and improve circulation. This means that more nutrients reach the cells in your scalp which stimulates hair growth. You absorb more nutrients into hair follicles from the root up, which will lead to stronger, healthier hair.
Citrus scents, like bergamot, lemon, and grapefruit, can also put a pep in your step. Its smell offers a sunny disposition and lightens a heavy heart, lifts stagnation, and encourages confidence. So a few spritzes of this lotion spray to your hair can offer more than just healthy hair but also an emotional boost as aromatherapy!
Another botanic ingredient in my recipe is castor oil. Rich in fatty acids, vitamin E, and other proteins and minerals, castor oil can nourish hair follicles and moisturize your hair down to its roots. The antibacterial and antifungal properties in the oil can reduce dandruff as well as scalp infections.

0.6g Geogard (Phase B) [ Ā Germaben II ā US / Europe ]
0.5g Bergamot Essential Oil (Phase B)
0.5g Lemon Essential Oil (Phase B)

- In the mean time weigh and transfer all the ingredients B directly into your spray bottle. This is to minimise the lost of ingredients during the transfer if it were to involved another container. And also most of the ingredients of phase B are temperature sensitive.
- When phase A is totally emulsified, quickly transfer to a cold water bath to cool down the mixture.
- When the mixture of phase A is completely cool down, decant it into your spray bottle. Shake and mix! And voila your hair lotion spray is done.
Notes
- The pH of the recipe is about 4.0 ~ 5.0 which is said to be the best pH for a healthy hair scalp.
Watch what you eat
Good external hair care products with only organic and botanic ingredients will no doubt improve our hair’s condition. But don’t underestimate the role of a healthy diet plays in how you look. Vitamin C is crucial to maintaining your skin’s collagen and elasticity. Nutrition is vital to maintaining healthy-looking hair, skin, and nails. In fact, some of the first symptoms of nutritional deficiencies like B-12 are thinning, dry hair, and thin, brittle nails. Too little zinc, biotin, or iodine might affect the appearance and integrity of your hair and nails. Make sure you eat a diverse range of healthy, colorful foods every day to get these essential nutrients.
For a smoother, healthier hair! Cheers.
